The shoreline at Rondeau Bay park is small pebbles with some sand, and offers sailing for all ability levels. The only hazard to speak of is a large pier, situated downwind during prevailing westerly winds. The best winds are the prevailing westerly winds and southwest winds, northwest wind is also good. If there is a hint of southwest wind in Toronto, you'll often find the wind is blowing over 15 knots in Rondeau.

There are good waves and chop in all wind directions. If winds are easterly or northeasterly, you can either drive to the other side of the bay and launch at Shrewsbury, or launch on the other side of the park on the Lake Erie side for some possible great wave sailing.

Rondeau Bay is very shallow and joins onto Lake Erie which is also relatively shallow. This translates to two things: first, the water warms up quickly so you can sail in a shorty by the end of May; and second, you will need to pack your weed fin.

Prevailing westerly and southwesterly winds provide great conditions. Admission fee well worth the convenience of public washrooms, ample
parking, grassy rigging areas, and canteen. Relatively unknown to most Toronto area windsurfers; popular among those in the London and Kitchener areas.

The rigging area and parking for windsurfers is off the main road behind the canteen at the bay shore.

Starting 2005 there is an Annual Windsurfing Regatta in May In Rondeau Park. Look for info at: www.rondeauyachtclub.ca and www.windsurfcanada.com

Rondeau Bay is on the western end of Lake Erie, roughly three hours southwest of Toronto. Take the 401 west to exit #109 (which is Highway #21), continue on #21 south, and follow signs to Rondeau Bay. Once you enter Rondeau, go straight until you get to the entrance of the Provincial Park. The windsurfing area is a few hundred meters into the park on the left side of the pier.

The sensor is mounted 200 meters offshore in Rondeau Bay on top of the light post at the end of the "BIG DOCK". The mounting location delivers a 100% clean view of all wind directions. Reading are VERY accurate for winds from S clockwise to NNE but will read low and gusty when winds blow outside of that range as there are big trees along the shore.
