The windsurfing area is on the left (west) side of Sunset Point. The launch into the water is all flat shale rock, and there are very few small rocks making booties optional. A large boulder near the launch is marked with a buoy.
Although this beach can be sailed in winds from the west through north to east, the location is best for the prevailing northwest winds. At 20-25 knots, the waves easily get to six feet -- and when the wind holds for a few days, mast-high waves have been experienced.

West winds produce cross-shore chop. North, onshore winds produce breakers that make for good sailing, although it is difficult to get out due to the beach's bowl-like shape. East winds come in very well, but usually bring rain so check the weather forecast. Northwest winds create water conditions similar to northwest, and east similar to west.

The water stays fairly cool, and although the maximum temperature can reach about 20 degrees C, shorties are normally a minimum requirement. The site becomes sailable in the spring, generally around the end of March.

Great site for expert sailors during prevailing northwest winds; large waves build when wind holds for any length of time.
Ample free parking, lots of grass, and heated change-rooms always open in the summer months. If it is windy out of season, Fathom will be there to open them.
Great place to bring the family with picnic tables and canteen open June through August.
Since this site is in the middle of Collingwood, stores are close at hand.
During summer season, the west side of the beach is a swimming area with life guards on duty.
If you have any problems with your windsurf gear, Fathom is close by on Huron Street. If anything needs to be repaired or purchased to optimize your day on the water, it can be done there. Call Fathom, 498 Huron Street, Collingwood, at 705-444-6606

Sunset Point is located in Collingwood, about 90 minutes from Toronto. Take Highway #26 west and follow it through Collingwood. Take a right at the light onto Pretty River Parkway, then turn right on Raglan. (The main road curves left, and you are almost going straight.) Take Raglan to the water.

The sensor is located at the lifeguard cabin on the east side of Sunset Point beach and has a good reading for 360 degrees.
