Jekyll Island is state-owned so all beaches are public with plenty of parking and access stairs/ ramps. Public restrooms and outdoor open showers.

Island runs SSW to NNE so East winds are preferred for on-shore. Preferred location is "Kite Beach" in front of Blackbeard's Restaurant, 1/2 mile north of the road you drive in on (turn left for north). The weatherflow sensor overlooks this beach.

Plenty of launch room even on holiday weekends since there are fewer sunbathers here then on the nearby St. Simons. Large east-west sand bar at low tide offers many exposures. Hard-pack sand great for buggy or ATB- 4 mile runs with on-shore winds when not crowded. Even high summer season weekends, there is several football fields' worth of space here at low tide with few people.

For S or SW winds, Drive south past Soccer fields and right on Macy Lane for public right of way to beach, next to the gaudy pink house. Path is 1/3 mile through marsh over rickety wooden walkway to beach. Be careful. Beware of tidal currents here.

We have kite-friendly local government and are trying to keep it that way so please be safe. If you stay at Day's Inn, please do not kite there- it's too crowded except winter. Come up 1/2 mile to Kite Beach and you have all the room you need to be safe and have fun.
