Barnegat Bay is a shallow body of clean water with most areas waist deep. Famous New Jersey warm southerly thermal winds blow on average 2-3 times per weeks in May, June and July. Sailors launch at 68th Street (Bayview Park) in Brant Beach or at Harvey Cedars Park in Harvey Cedars. 68th Street is the preferred flat water launch for southwest, west, northwest, north and northeast winds. Harvey Cedars is excellent for Southwest, west, northwest and south winds.
Northeast, south and southwest winds provide excellent ocean sailing at 9th Street , Barnegat Light or 33rd Street in Brant Beach, across from Island Surf & Sail.
Windsurf lessons are given at Harvey Cedars Park by the legendary Jack Busko who has been teaching windsurfing for 20 years. Beginner lessons are from 8am to12pm every day, May-October. Advanced lessons are from 1pm-6pm. Jack's specialty is kids and beginners and has taught sailors from 5 to 80 years of age. Most people who learn with Jack never get wet! Sensor Notes
Located in the middle of Barnegat Bay, New Jersey at a height of 20 ft, this exclusive WeatherFlow sensor has very accurate wind readings for the surrounding waters. This sensor is probably our best wind sensor on the East Coast. Wind readings are accurate from all wind directions. Southwest, west, northwest and north winds blow strongest, with south winds not far behind. Northeast winds are also good. Southeast and east winds blow the lightest.
