West Falmouth Overview
West Falmouth is great for all skill levels. Since Chappy is an unprotected beach, the shorebreak and swells can get quite intense. However, across the road from the parking lot is West Falmouth Harbor. This section of the harbor has few boats, sees virtually the same wind, and is flat -- great for speed sailing or a rest from getting beat up in the waves and swell.
Chappy is the second windiest beach after Kalmus. Unfortunately, there are severe parking restrictions when lifeguards are on duty (roughly Memorial through Labor Day). Note that launching is no problem, just parking. Some intrepid sailors drop their gear off at the beach, park elsewhere, and return to the beach by bicycle. The lifeguards go off-duty around 5 p.m. so late afternoon sailing is always feasible, although the thermals usually die around this time. Also, if the wind is cranking, beachgoers and lifeguards take cover from the blowing sand -- so one can usually park during the best conditions. Whatever you do, avoid parking along the road or in the private dirt lots: the town aggressively tickets.

Take Route 28 south to Thomas Landers Road. At the bottom of ramp go right, then left onto 28A. Chappaquoit Road is on your right in 1.4 miles. Go to the water and look for the asphalt lot that is sprouting roof racks.

Sensor Notes
The sensor overlooks the launch at Chappaquoit ("Chappy"). Although you might not expect it, this is a great place for northwest and north-northwest winds. Since these are sideshore and side-offshore, the meter reads extremely low. However, if you can make it 200-400 yards offshore, you'll find fantastic conditions. If you know these winds are happening based on Chapin Beach or Kalmus Beach readings, Chappy might be worth investigating.
