Woods Hole Light Overview
Woods Hole Passage Light is a unique weather site by virtue of standing offshore directly in the middle of one of New England's most difficult waterways connecting Vineyard Sound to Buzzards Bay. Current runs nearly constantly as high as 6 knots. Rocks are in abundance. The channel is narrow and made more challenging with a 'split' buoy where transiting west to east with a turn to the southeast challenging mariners navigating the shortest route to Vineyard Sound. Erected in winter 2015 only days before the arrival of Ospreys, Woods Hole Passage Light is unfettered by obstruction at every point on the compass.
