The Hudson Valley Windsurfers,aka "River Rats", Are a group of windsurfers based along the banks of the Hudson River In the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State. Most of the club Members sail primarily in the Hudson River from launches in towns such as Cornwall, NY in the south to Kingston, NY in the north.
The club also Organizes member trips to some of the east coast's best windsurfing locations.
Kingston Point Beach (KPB), Kingston, NY
KPB is on west side of river. Kingston Point is fabulous on N-NE, whereas SW-SE require a slog from a north facing cove. Nice sand beach and launch, ample parking. The cove is good for beginners in light N-NE. $4 fee in summer. KPB is reached from 9W. When crossing Hudson at Kingston bridge, just off bridge turn to RTE 32 S for 2.5mi, 9W S for 1.2mi, Delaware Ave toward river 1.4mi. On 9W from South, take Delaware Ave which is about ½ mile past the bridge over the Rondout Creek. Latitude: N41° 55.724' Longitude: W73° 57.850'
Rider Town Park is the venue of choice for S and SW winds, though SE is still good.
Just south of Kingston Rhinebeck Bridge on West side. Take 9W (from the south) to 32 and make right at boat dealership. Go down around to the left to Charles Rider Park which is also a public boat ramp.
