Sauble Beach is many miles long, and is all soft sand with no obstacles in the water, so booties are not required. The two most popular sailing spots are the change-rooms at 1-1/2 km North and the Trading Post a little way south from the main strip.
Southwest and northwest winds are the best, creating nice waves and cross-onshore conditions. Because the beach curves a bit, most people sail at the Trading Post during south winds and at the change-rooms during north winds. Many people also go further north to the river. The outflow from the river makes for a clean down the line port ride that's killer.

The water warms up slowly due to the size of Lake Huron, so always bring along proper sailing attire. Be aware that water temperatures can fluctuate drastically with different wind conditions. Although a fairly good east reading can be obtained from Sauble, always use your head and take caution in cross-offshore winds. Avoid offshore winds since water temperatures can drop drastically in these conditions, and swimming back in an emergency might become a fatal battle.

Southwest and northwest winds create ideal cross-onshore conditions. Use common sense and caution in any offshore wind due to frigid waters. On the northern half, park along the beach road; on the southern half, parking is allowed on the beach. Note the 15 minute parking limit at the change-rooms; unload your car and then park on the road to avoid a ticket. Change-rooms open through summer months; attendant sometimes opens them out of season.

If you've never been to Sauble Beach, we recommend going for a weekend. The town of Sauble Beach is very nice with many shops and restaurants, and there is a camping area just outside of town. So go for a visit. If it is windy, great; if not, you are still guaranteed a great time. Sauble Beach is located on Lake Huron, west of Owen Sound, about three hours from Toronto. From Owen Sound, take Highway #70 northwest to Hepworth. At Hepworth, go west on Highway #8 which turns into the main strip in Sauble Beach and runs all the way to the lake.

The sensor is located a mile north from the main strip at Sauble Beach. It is on top of the change-room building, and has a clear view for 360 degrees. We thank the Township of Amabel for their permission to install the station at this location.
