This spot has been developed by the Port of Hood River as an excellent venue to provide easy access to a large number of sailors. Located within walking distance from downtown Hood River, it also is one of the more popular sailing sites from May to August for families. A large, spacious parking area which can handle several hundred cars as well as RV's is available for a $5 daily fee or $50 season pass . Bathrooms available as well as an outdoor shower! With a sizeable grass rigging area lying adjacent to the smooth gravel launch, this is one of the more pleasant places to access the river in the entire Gorge. Recommended for intermediate to advanced level sailors.
The rules and guidelines for launching and landing at the Event Site and Sandbar for both kiters and windsurfers are posted on signs at both the Sandbar and the Event Site. These signs have an aerial view of the sandbar/event site with displayed markings designating the windsurf launch and landing zones as well as the kiteboard launch and landing zones. PLEASE NOTE : a 600'x600'zone extending out from the Event Site will now be a "no wake" zone that does not allow any kiteboarding and will require windsurfers to abide to a non-planing speed and non-jibing rule).
There has been much effort invested from the local communities to help make our local sailing and kiteboarding sites as safe as we possibly can make them, without inflicting any negative repercussions to each sport.

To access from Portland, drive east on I-84 through Cascade Locks until you see the exit signs for Hood River. Take the 2nd Hood River exit # 63 and turn left at the end of the off ramp. Head north until you reach the Event Site parking area which has a fee booth at the entrance and is well marked. It will cost you $4 to park for the day, yearly passes are also available.

The sensor is located on the Luhr Jensen Building just west of the rigging area. It is also approximately 75 feet from the water’s edge and receives 360 degrees of clean wind. No adjustments have been made to this very popular sailing site sensor, remember that winds on the north side of the river are generally a little stronger. This sensor is great for determining winds in the Hook to Marina area, but note that the river takes a southerly bend just prior to this point and winds are often lighter here than they are in the Swell to Hatchery stretch.
