The Jax Pier is at the heart of Jacksonville Beach which is a popular destination for people to hit the beach. The pier is also very popular for surfers since the polls have some of the better waves in the area. Because of the pier, surfers and concentration of people, it is highly recommended to go about 10 blocks north (8th avenue North) or south (6th Avenue South) of the pier to kiteboard. Ocean Park at 6th Avenue South is a great starting point because of the ample parking and the public shower to rinse equipment. As with all locations in Jax Beach, please be careful of beachgoers and DO NOT give lessons here. If you are a beginner or giving lessons, go to Huguenot Park. Local Expert? edit Edit this Page!
Shops, Schools, Clubs, Events, Food, Lodging, More,
Season: Early Spring and late Fall are the best with stronger wind.
Water: Small to medium waves. Temps in winter can get in the 50's, but normally in the 70's.
Ability Level: Intermediate to Expert because of waves and people.
Wetsuit: Late fall, winter and early spring requires a full 3/2 wetsuit for the 50-60F water.
Familiness: Great beaches. It can get busy during the summer.
Parking: Good (free) at public beach accesses.
Launch: Good wide beach at low tide. Can get narrow at high tide.

Only kiteboard on N-NE-E-SE-S winds, never on any wind that has a west component. Some very North or very South wind can be buffeted by the taller buildings in Jacksonville Beach. The weather station seems to be accurate on all wind directions out of the East.
